Launched in the spring of 2023, Ignite Change is an accountability program for men who have caused harm in their intimate relationships. The program supports participants through a process of developing and maintaining accountability as they heal unresolved wounds of developmental trauma and transform abusive values. With the goal of reducing recidivism, Ignite Change is tailored to serve men who are at risk for repeat offense of domestic violence. 

 

The Ignite Change curriculum was developed by a non-profit organization based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from groundbreaking research on the ongoing impact of developmental, socio-cultural, and generational trauma on the trajectory of adult intimate partner relationships. The process has proven to reduce repeat domestic violence offenses by 87% per an evaluation of 300 men who participated in the program.

Who can participate?

Some participants of Ignite Change come to us through referral partners or are mandated through the VT Department of Corrections or VT Department of Children and Families. Others apply because they have identified abusive values and/or behaviors in themselves and are ready to begin the healing process. The program is ideal for those who have caused harm in their relationships or feel that they are capable of causing harm.

What is involved?

 

Participation begins with an intake meeting, where we gather background information, get to know every participant’s story, and share more about the Ignite Change program. Before entering the program, each person takes part in a daylong orientation that allows them to meet other incoming participants and receive information about the basic structure and expectations of the program. After that, they are ready to join a group, as space allows, where they will complete 52 sessions in order to graduate. 

 

Client Impact:

As of 2024, we are operating three, 26-week Ignite Change groups, each with a capacity for 15 participants. One is offered online and the other two take place in-person in Newport and St. Johnsbury.
